Our Story

 

 

Simply Wicked Candles was born out of uncertainty, resilience, and a deep love for home, comfort, and family.

 

Like so many others, the COVID outbreak changed everything for us. Employment was lost, stability disappeared overnight, and we were faced with the daunting reality of having to start over. What began as necessity soon turned into purpose.

 

We had always loved candles. For many years, they were part of our daily lives, bringing warmth, calm, and atmosphere into our home. With time on our hands and a need to rebuild, we purchased a simple starter kit and began experimenting with candle making at home.

 

What followed were countless hours and days of frustration, trial and error, and learning the hard way. But alongside that journey, a far more important concern surfaced: were the candles we were burning actually safe for us and our pets?

 

As devoted pet owners, this question mattered deeply to us. When we began researching safer alternatives, we quickly realised that truly pet-friendly, high-quality candles were simply not available in South Africa.

 

So we decided to change that.

 

With months of research and development, and by investing the little funding we had left from our retirement savings, we committed ourselves to creating a candle range that met three non-negotiable standards:

• Safety for our beloved fur babies and ourselves

 

 

Today, we proudly source only High Grade C3 (triple-refined) soy wax for all our candles. This premium wax burns cleaner, longer, and more evenly than traditional alternatives.

 

Our fragrance range is formulated by a close personal friend and professional fragrance specialist based in the UK, who develops every scent specifically to be pet friendly, without compromising on depth, complexity, or luxury.

 

Unlike the widely available paraffin-based candles in South Africa, our candles contain no unnecessary fillers and no harsh ingredients. The difference is something you can see, smell, and feel from the very first burn.
